Support for health Expanded Coverage

In response to Ana Ibarra’s article “Health care expansion for migrants opposed” (Page A1, Oct. 24), it is important to point out that the poll results cited in the article are only part of the story. A critical part of the bipartisan polling research was omitted: After being presented with both the pro’s and con’s of providing health coverage for all, including undocumented Californians, a majority of 51 percent of Central Valley respondents support expanded coverage. This shows that even in our valley, when presented with the facts and arguments on both sides, we know providing health coverage for the undocumented not only is the right thing to do, but it helps our economy, and reduces taxpayers’ burden that we already bear when individuals use expensive emergency room care without health coverage.
